Today I went to fill my water bottle at the public water dispenser. There was a guy in front of me in the queue. He just filled a little of water enough for one or two mouths then walked out of the queue so that it became my turn. Obviously, after I finished filling, he came back and started filling his big water bottle.
This was not the first time I received such noble gesture. And I always had mixed feelings every time this happened.
Surely, I was grateful for their noble and gentlemanly actions. There were still honorable people around.
On the other hand, I was slightly unhappy for being taken as "a girl." I was given way because I was a girl, because I looked weak and fragile, because men were taught like that. I am a supporter of feminism. I support equality. Women are human beings hence they can do whatever men can do. If I accept your gesture like what a gentleman should do, you will expect me to behave like how a lady should be. I don't agree with this condition, and sure, I don't expect men to open the door for me, pull the chair for me, pay for my meal and things as such.
Just take me as another human being. I will let you fill your water bottle first if you are urgent. And please accept my "noble" gesture, too; don't refuse because "a man cannot do that to a girl."
Reserve the sentence for things like rape, which obviously need the sentence, in capital and double underlined.
